Help a Single Parent (HASP) became a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Charitable Organization in 2019, though it was in operation since 2006.   As noted on the organization site this came about after co-founder Mike Scott, son of 3rd District Councilwoman Valerie Moman, engaged in a short conversation with a young lady who disclosed her frustrations of not having money to provide for her child for Christmas. She didn’t have a tree, food and was struggling with bills and as a single mother had nowhere to turn for support. Mike along with a few people in the bar were able to give the single mother a monetary donation that night to help her and her child out.

Today, the board has been active in raising funds to support single parent families in the Norristown area through holidays and back to school drives.   On Tuesday during the regularly scheduled council meeting members of the board presented Awards of recognition to
Norristown Fire DepartmentNorristown Police Department and Crazy Aaron who have supported their many community events.

Presenting at the awards presentation were (L-R) Bernessa Perry, Secretary; Tiffany Heldley, Council Members Sonya fisher-Sanders and Valerie Moman.   Absent Board Members Lydia Grose, Gary Simpson and Dustin Queenan.
